Answer for: Hard Drives with the best failure rate?

The old 5 1/2 inch disk drives only lasted 2 years or so.
I have only had one 3.5 inch drive fail and I have had some of them for over 5 years.

Adding RAID 1 one top of that would give quit an amazing failure rate. it there is a 1/365 chance that a given drive would fail then the chance of both disks failing on the same day should be 1/133,000. If both disks are the same and the same age it is likely higher than that, but still remote.

The 500 Gig disk seems to be the best by in Jan 2008.

Also on linux you can have Software RAID 1.
