How irritating - I spent some time writing a comment and then the perishin system did not take it. This time it's going to be shorter.
Joan Hickson as Miss Marple - (TV series) and David Suchet as Hercules Poirot (TV series) are the best characterisations - they both really understood the characters and must have read the books and studied them hard.
Margaret Rutherford played a too extrovert, mannish Marple and Peter Ustinov was OK but not a patch on Suchet's fussy, elegant, vain and massively intelligent Poirot.
