Psilocybin rules
Psilocybin - what are the effects? Is it safe for people who have suffered from anxiety and/or depression (like me)?
Expect a stomach ache or even brief shooting pains for a few minutes shortly after eating mushrooms- at least, if they have been frozen... but his will pass off. Pleasant, mild/benign hallucinatory effects. You will become easily fascinated, deeply absorbed in whatever is your activity. I drew, and my crayon became very bendy, which was very amusing. I looked at the cracks on what was usually a depressingly dingy wall, and saw pictures morphing. And expect to feel jangly as it wears off. And if you're over 25, allow at least 24 hours with no obligations afterwards, because you may be exhausted. It's been, oh, 35 years since I had psylocibine mushrooms, but See? I still remember it, and it was fun! You might feel too confined indoors, also, so make provision for a place to be outside.
It might be a good thing to try to attain this state without the mushrooms. Minus the stomach pangs and jangly feelings. :-)
Good advice, probably! And you aren't likely to find honest answers out there re. whether it's safe for depressive/anxious people. Just alarmism from the medical profession, and silence from others. I think I'm a depression-prone, anxious person, though, and other than the physical effects lasting a day or so, no harm done, as far as I know. An altered state can be a nice break- but could lead to a dark place as easily as to a light one. Probably one should at least choose not to be alone .
I was once anxious/depression prone. I got rid of it though. Without mushrooms.
I have been through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened. - Mark Twain
I go through depressive periods occasionally but have only been "clinically" depressed once in the past. Mushrooms haven't really affected this for me personally. However, I would suggest taking them with some friends rather than alone. Always good with first times to have someone around.
I have always found Mushrooms quite similar to weed in the way that you usually can get yourself straight if it is really neccessary, but I am always knackered the next day.
I haven't had any of the stomach upset mentioned above. I think it helps when you don't take the vile things on their own, but put them in some cup-a-soup or something similar. Then again, I may just have the stomach of steel.
I doubt anyone was offering mushrooms as a cure for depression- I know I wasn't! Though sometimes an unusual experience or altered state can change your outlook, temporarily. As Goliath says, there are better ways to accomplish inner change- they take practice, though- one must break ingrained habits of negative thinking, like learning to ignore the voice you carry inside your head that tells you you are not worthy.
Thanks for the honest information but I don't find anything to tempt me in what you have all said, quite the opposite. I think I'll give this substance a miss. The physiological effects and the psychological effects sound terrible to me. Apart from stomach cramps and exhaustion, I have enough trouble dealing with this reality without bothering with another one. I think that would tip me right over the edge and I might not come back. Some would say good riddance no doubt, but there are one or two people who would miss me.
