From an artist's perspective, the problem with Ceretana is that it is a closed shop: you have to rent space there to show there.

Actually Maximus, this is not the case, tho it has definately seemed this way so far. The Ceretana has had an interesting journey, but I think it is really coming into its own. This last event seemed to me to be the most succesful yet, as far as a "presentable gallery show" and I believe there were a couple artists showing who don't have a space at the Ceretana. If you're interested, there will definately be upcoming months where the Ceretana will be looking for outside artists. Of course those most involved in the gallery space, ie those who rent and put effort into the gallery space, will have priviledge to the gallery for most of the shows throughout the year. But a lot of the time it is a scramble for these artists to just get art up on the walls and have an opening. I think everyone agrees it will be beneficial to have outside artists hang in the gallery once in awhile.

Excellent to know. One of the other artists in the space presented it to me otherwise. Appreciate the correction. I'll be in touch with you IRL to try to figure something out for 2007.
