This distribution is the rock on which Ubuntu, Knoppix, DSL, and many other GNU/Linux distros are built; it is probably the most flexible distribution out there, and runs on more architectures than any other distro out there, even on HURD and BSD kernels. Debian features a social contract that guarantees it's dedication to FOSS ideals.
