No joke. Even with as cool as Austin is.. No way. Couldn't pay me enough to live in that hellhole.

Living near Austin, I'm having some trouble with the "hellhole" epithet. I've lived in Southern California, New York (Long Island), Indiana (rural), Chicago (city & suburban), and I vote for Austin. Both the people and the place.

But, I guess diversity of opinion is a good thing.

aww...

you really have to give Austin a chance.

Great food, hopping music scene, friendly and educated people, liberal atmosphere, awesome weather (well, it is kinda hot in the summer; but that's what Barton Springs is for! (and hey, you can go topless....and yes, plenty of attractive girls do...) ) And there is plentiful, affordable homegrown dank that you can find without too much trouble (which i know appeals to you holo...)

More well-traveled friends than I have described is as a little island of Northern California dropped into the middle of Texas, minus any snobbery, but with the superior BBQ of Texas (sorry, it's just a fact; and no, Carolinians, your BBQ is all weird and molasses based...). The Mexican food is equally good, albeit a bit different.

I agree with MDAdams, I've lived in Orlando, DC, and Huntsville (AL) and I still think Austin was the best city to live in. There is simply so much to do.

My last comment was made before a recent trip that away, and I have to admit - I was wrong. Austin rules. I'd still be kinda weary of living in an oasis of awesome within a sea of suck, but given the right circumstances I'd move there in a heartbeat.

I live in Dallas right now but I'll be moving out this summer (I'll probably go to New Jersey) and I can't wait.
