Don't remind me
#2 Yes, this is offensive
This insinuates mans domination over woman. I'm appalled by this ad.

I don't think it is Spain that is 'behind the times'.
Do Dolce & Gabbana really think a photo implying gang rape is hip and with it? I can see where the photo itself could merit some artistic value, but as an advertisement, it is out of line.
The image used in this answer implies something very different than what the Dolce & Gabbana ad implies, I think.
I just don't see "gang rape" anywhere in the D&G picture. I mean, last I thought about it, if you're being raped, you're not exactly raising your hips up to your assailant. You do that when you Want It. When you're powerless over your desire. She's being held down physically, maybe, but she has a distant, detached expression, as though her mind is on all the other hot lovers she's had before. I think this ad is so much more suggestive of our powerlessness over consumerism than it is of rape, if only because there is so much desire written on her face.
The shame of it is that people's minds immediately jump to thinking about gang rape, and being offended about the implication that it's right (how do you even see that, I wonder?), when they see a woman with a group of guys. Ugh. I hate living in a world where rape and gang rape occur. I don't understand it, and I think it's the most foul. The fact that it's so common for a woman to have been sexually assaulted is an indication of a messed up society in which women are often physically intimidated and rendered powerless by men. But, thinking logically about this ad, what advantage would there be for D&G to promote Gang Rape? It doesn't make any sense. They're selling clothes. To women, mainly.
Well said, famousperson.
I haven't quite made up my mind as to whether this ad went "over the top" or not. But I do question the immediate knee-jerk reaction to things like these, without giving much thought.
I see both sides of the story. But I am kind of curious what everyone's reaction would be if this picture depicted, instead, one man and four women?
When I looked at it, I didn't view it as the 3 background men "looking on". They just seemed kind of superimposed and staged looking.
when was the last time you sat and contemplated the meaning of an advertisement? The whole idea behind print ads is to invoke something that will make the consumer remember your product. D&G sell cothing.... why is there not much in the ad?
And as for the comment that you raise your hip when you want it..... if you are being held down. you raise and buck your hips to give you leverage to try to get away as well.
if i was in her position and really wanted to get away, i would stab him with my heels. why isnt she doing that?
Who's to say this ad doesn't insinuate this particular woman's pretended acquiescence to men to gain the upper hand?
Be careful with generalization.
Mm.
