"Sorry, thought I better bite my tung before I hurt his feelings"
Really - Don't worry 'bout my feelings, doll.. I'm a big boy.

"but seriously are you guys that big of losers that you need to use the internet to gang up on people?"
Hey, you're the one picking on the migrants who MADE this country what it is today AND insinuating that all whom look / sound / act differently than you are inferior. I'm just helpfully pointing out that in the Native American's America, YOU are the illegal alien.

"I'm 110 pounds and i think I could kick both you asses."
It's true - I'm a total nancy-boy IRL.

I'm not picking on anyone I think it was Roosevelt who said that he welcomes immigration but, this is the US and when in it the only language that should be spoke is English. If I moved to Italy I would learn Italian, Etc. I live in AZ and I am sick of having to choose the English Option on the ATM, I am very aware of what immigrants have done for this country, I am in a PhD history program. I don't hate any race, I just dont think I need to learn a different language in my own country. That goes for any citizen in any country.

"this is the US and when in it the only language that should be spoke is English"
Why?

"I live in AZ and I am sick of having to choose the English Option on the ATM"
Man, it must be rough being you. I'd recommend taking stock of your many, many, many, many blessings before complaining about pushing a single goddamn button:

"I don't hate any race, I just dont think I need to learn a different language in my own country."
You do realize that the US doesn't have a national language, right?

"the only language that should be spoke is English"

The only language that should be _spoken_ is English. For someone so worked up about people speaking the "right" language, you sure could use some help with basic grammar.

Why English? It wasn't the first language spoken. Casmoore would, in any case, find it impossible to learn any other language since even English is a challenge.

Funny how people like casmoore don't even consider the benefits of being able to communicate with people outside their own country, to be able to read foreign newspapers and find out how people in other nations think about the many international issues facing our planet.

casmoore, I have news for you, America represents only 5% of the world population and it's not the center of the universe. ;-)

Yes, I lived in another country for two years learned the language yet I know nothing about other countries. Yeah you all know me so well. I know nothing. Really, just shut your mouth. I am done with this topic. I have my opinion. A lot of my family is not even from this country and they speak English just fine. So like I said shut your mouth. If you think you know my entire personality based on a comment you are ignorant my friend. Have a great day! Thanks for your opinion, you still haven't changed mine so don't waste your time! :)

PS Ferre: 98% of Americans speak English already. I would think it's a lot easier to teach 2% of the population in AMERICA English than it would to teach everyone another language.

To understand the emotions and issues around this topic, I think it's important to understand the new realities of demographics, immigration, and attitudes of immigrants in the US. Language is a lightning rod component of a larger issue:
http://www.washingto.../melt0222.htm
"I do not think that most Americans really understand the historic changes happening before their very eyes," said Peter Salins, an immigration scholar who is provost of the State Universities of New York. "What are we going to become? Who are we? How do the newcomers fit in – and how do the natives handle it – this is the great unknown."

"At a recent school board meeting in East Palo Alto, Calif., police had to break up a fight between Latinos and blacks, who were arguing over the merits and expense of bilingual education in a school district that has shifted over the last few years from majority African American to majority Hispanic. One parent told reporters that if the Hispanics wanted to learn Spanish they should stay in Mexico."

I know, TL;DR.

It's a problem in our state, as I am sure you know. Many people that move here and learn English without the benefit of bilingual education get along just fine; there are many that see it as a crutch.
i'm just sayin'

This answer would be hilarious if it wasn't incredibly sad.

The best part about it, of course, is the image. Conservatism can always trump the opposition by sticking to good old fashioned Americana, suggesting that somehow to think anything different is to be anti- or unAmerican.

The relevancy of your comment is ... that the black parents in East Palo Alto, CA were playing the conservative card?

As I mentioned, I think the language issue is a lightning rod protruding from a larger issue. One that affects opinions, generates fear and anger, within all corners of the political landscape.
