Best low maintenance pet around, and very endearing.

yup, though the cage smells after two days already, you can't walk into the room without being whistled at (builders in the GP family) they are always hungry, and if they don't like what you give them they pee on it... (i got two males, fussy buggers, but I love them really :))

Ours hasn't peed on its food yet (as far as I am aware!). Our daughter's job is to spot clean twice a day, as well as do a more thorough clean out less frequently - good character building stuff, but not as bad as clearing dog poo!

...and bedding, poo, leftover food all goes on the compost heap. Result!

I love guinea pigs! They make the most adorable noises.
I put a layer of baking soda under the bedding; it helps. Plus I use that non-woodchip stuff; you have to change it less often so the difference in price works out, ish. Mine've never peed on their food, but they sometimes refuse to eat the pellets, as we give them a lot of veggie scraps.

Yes, the squeaking is sweet.

Helpful hint about the baking soda, and will have to try that. We use sawdust (specially for pets, so there is no fine dust in it).

Ours is starting to refuse his dry food, probably because I keep giving him carrots and our broccoli off cuts, as well as dandelion leaves.
