It's hard, I admit, but sometimes you really can judge a book by its cover, or in this case, you really can judge a movie by its trailer. Not always, I admit, but sometimes.

One good method for avoiding bad movies: find a movie you like, and follow that directors work from early to late. Kurosawa, for instance.
