Assuming governments qualify as answers to this topic, then would you say that the govt of North Korea is more ethical and moral than the US Government? Sudan/Darfur? Russia? Mexico? Zimbabwe? Or are you engaging in a bit of hyperbole?

Nobody chooses to do business with governments - I'd say this answer, while funny, is irrelevant.

I am not sure why goverments would not qualify as companies? They have employees, purchase and provide services, outsource to other companies, etc. I do not think I was engaging in any hyperbole.

@holo

fwiw, you can choose to use the US postal service over say FedEx, you could hire a bounty hunter instead of involving the FBI, I am sure there are other examples I am missing

The government can choose to do business with you, but the reverse is not very usual.

Still, I have to agree with MDA. There are a handfull of more unethical governments in the world

@skriiiiti: "you can choose to use the US postal service over say FedEx.."

Fair point.

Eligibilityfor the topic aside, I would hesitate to put the US Government at the *top* of the list of most unethical and immoral entities. An entity is, I presume, any enterprise whatsoever. Hence my suggestion that hyperbole is involved...

I would put it above all of the others due to the fact that none of those countries have the WMD quantity or the borrowable money to create as much havoc as the US does. I wish that I did not believe this but current events have led me to this opinion. Iraq and Afghanistan and the Iran bluster from the Bush administration being the leading problems IMHO.

SR: your point is worthy of thought: Does one measure the the morality and ethics of an action based on intrinsic qualities of the action and motivations thereof, or does one also factor in the wealth and resources of the perpetrator -- and subsequent potential for larger impact?

But still, I think we'll have to disagree at the end of this discussion. The degree of corruption and genocidal behavior is also a major factor.

Thanks for the great discussion and we can always agree to disagree, isn't that the best part of an open and democratic situation?
