Answer for: What Is Missoula's Best Live Music Venue?

#2 The Badlander

The Badlander is located in the old Ritz, the now defunct JackHammer's location on Ryman in the Palace Hotel. It will be opening soon. It may not be the best venue for seeing live music, but it will certainly cater to a discerning crowd. The folks from Ear Candy sure do have exquisite taste in music and hospitality. Get ready for some memorable moments.

I am looking forward to their opening.

Best of luck to the Badlander!

Go Badlander! I can't wait for this place to get rolling. I trust the new management pretty implicity and know they'll do a great job.

More specifically (and importantly!) a live music venue. I'm sure alcohol will be a part of the overall picture, though.

The Badlander was a good time on Patty's Day for a new opening. But the bouncers were (above-average) assholes. For some brilliant reason they decided to steam-roll my wife onto the sidewalk at closing while my attorney was standing right next to me. That could've been a quick ending...

Always loved the Ritz. Not a big music venue but always liked the feel.

Hammer Jack's staff was still running the show on St. Patty's because of liquor license transfer was still pending, as I understand it. So you'll have to chalk up your indignity to some about-to-be-unemployed steaknecks.

Thanks, JWD, for clarifying that. It's difficult for me to believe that Chris & Co. would allow such behavior from their staff, as they are so laid back.

(disclosure: I am one of the newly employed door guys)

Yes to the liquor, yes to the steaknecks getting cut loose.

The sound guy is the guy that did the sound for Jay's, and the band that played tonight was Jucifer. I'd never heard them before, and they sounded good even from the front door. I'm withholding judgement, though, until I can experience the sound from in front of the stage.

The vibe was a good one. It seemed people were glad to have a decent music venue in Missoula again.

(excuse the comment spam to follow)

Saturday night (3/31) should be a good opportunity to judge the sound system: The International Playboys, The Hermans, Danny's Dilemma, LP & the Federales with DJs Mermaid and Anamalley. Also: raffles and a drag show. It's a benefit show for Syndi Sticht.

I'll be there to see the Playboys tomorrow night. What I know of the new barstaff is that they're top-notch. Some of my favorites around Missoula have already been sniped to go work at the Badlander.

After my third visit to the new place tonight, I've got to say that hope the "Hammer Jack-offs" start clearing out soon. There's still a little too much aggressive energy in there for my taste.

Opening night they kept the bouncers from Hammer Jacks. They should have known better than that. I thought there might have been a riot by all the pissed off Hammer Jacks lovers! Badlanders bouncers are easy going and non-violent.
