Your "gut feeling" does not supersede the Democratic process, Mr. Van Valkenburg. You and the two county commissioners who voted for amending the initiative should be ashamed to call yourself public servants.
Is there even a point to voting any more if the will of the people can so easily be subverted by two people?

FYI: Of the two commissioners who voted to amend the initiative, Barbara Evans is up for re-election in 2008 and Jean Curtiss was just re-elected to a 6-year term (up in 2012). Van Valkenburg was elected to a 4-year term in Nov. 2006 as well. He ran unopposed, so you could start looking for someone to run against him in 2010.
I'm with that 100%. If he can't respect the will of the voters then what does he respect?
"Just for the record"-
The courthouse doors (all of them) were locked during the meeting. The meeting was from 4:30 to 6:30. I assume they were locked sometime around 5 or 5:30. Let's hear it for open meeting laws! One of the attendees followed a sheriff deputy back in to tell me the doors were locked. I guess it didn't really matter how many people were there to defend their vote, just as it didn't matter what the original vote was.
I say, "Not even an act of Nature or God can undue what the people have proclaimed!"
I'll put my vote on this answer like I had any faith in the government to begin with.
