If you're ever in Albuquerque on a Friday night, check out the fractal show at the planetarium. Took a field trip there from the high school, and now they want to go every year!

What are they, exactly?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fractal
A fractal is generally "a rough or fragmented geometric shape that can be subdivided into parts, each of which is (at least approximately) a reduced-size copy of the whole," a property called self-similarity. The term was coined by Benoît Mandelbrot in 1975 and was derived from the Latin fractus meaning "broken" or "fractured."
Fractals are fucking awesome.
I took an alternative Math course in college and ended up writing a paper on fractals; I'd never heard of them before and I found them way more fascinating than math equations that's for sure!
