Folks are predicting robot sex is coming to mankind fast and hard, like a bullet (and I'm not just talking about the FleshLight)

But clones of people are likely in the not too distant future, and could potentially be customized as easily as a robot, and offer a warmer alternative.
For further comment discussion:
But, what about the ethics of of these sex toys?
Also, Which would you prefer? (you sick pervert)

I say Sexbots. The problem with clones is that you have to let them grow up which takes forever and they may not even like you in the end (no matter how good their training). If you're just getting something for sex, then I say why not go for the never tiring and always compliant mindless robotic shag?
I envision the clones, not so much as personal property, but as rental items, in all shapes and sizes, personalities largely controlled genetically with some training, and once they past their prime, plenty of organs to harvest ;)
Todays sex toy is tomorrows Soylent Green.
You envision clones as being persons with no rights, who can be rented out? That's assuming the US legalizes human cloning, or that the United Nations Declaration on Human Cloning will be lifted? Maybe many millennia from now. Since myriad sex toys are legal, I can only envision sexbots.
there will always be a black market, and clandestine science....
Nontheless, the sexbots would be more likely to flourish because they'd be legal.
I guess in the immediate future, but I'm thinking long term, and also I when I say "popular" I guess I mean desirable
I also predict these current bans will be short lived...
Short lived? I doubt it since this country already bans sex toys that aren't organic or capable of near sentient thought. Stand up for your rights to sex bots and clones!

what can I say, I'm a hopeless idealist, I dream of a world where all autoerotic items are freely available
with respect to the human cloning ban, once a small nation realizes the market in cloned humans and starts production, the bans will likely be relaxed in other competing nations, or, I dunno, condemnation and war.
Cloning humans is inevitable. Cloning humans for purposes of (legal) sex slaves may require further descent down idiocracy avenue, though. But I think once the cloning starts, the black market possibilities are myriad.
the first thing i thought of when i saw this was clones of yourself which leads me to the aphorism: there's an xkcd for every occasion.

Terryfying.
There's still no sourceforge section for sexbot firmware.
Just in time for Valentines day, the courts rule the Texas ban on sex toys unconstitutional!

Huzzah!
A great day for freedom! (and for all we know David Souter & Ruth Bader Ginsburg are users themselves! You can bet Larry Craig is!)

"The relationship goes better if you take what she says at face value and don't ask too many questions."
Robot women really aren't that different.
