The bible has been rewritten so many times it is bound to have errors - of translation alone which would account for many different interpretations. The bible has been added to and sections deleted.
Not to mention the large body of apocryphal writing. Maybe when Jesus said in Matthew 5:11 (blessed are those persecuted in my name) he was actually talking about the gnostics. ;)
I also agree with Mark Twain:
"It is full of interest. It has noble poetry in it; and some clever fables; and some blood-drenched history; and some good morals; and a wealth of obscenity; and upwards of a thousand lies."
Dr Grudem was one of my Profs in Grad School. One of the BEST.
His textbook is a great resource. I probably refer to it more now than I did when my grade was dependent upon it.
And I recommend Dr. Hector Avalos, Dr. Robert Price, and Dr.Bart Ehrman, among others.
