Good thing the city contract is only worth $22,500... Hiring Gallatin Group assures that about 1/5 of the time and effort be spent in comparison to what could have been done by several local firms.
Any theories as to why Gallatin Group was chosen?
They're the big dogs in this part of the country. They've got a half-dozen former Senate chiefs of staff, etc... On the payroll. What ends up happening when you hire someone like that for a small project is that the principals take their cut and then farm out the work to the small local guys for half the cost.
As I was saying:

I'm not a homeowner yet, but I rent. Rent is ridiculously mismatched to the type of job opportunities in Missoula. My first renting experience was a hellish nightmare that can only be interpreted as something we survived.
The rent then was actually more decent than what I have now: $630 for a 2 bed, 1 bath (pretty spacious) apartment on Mount/14th. The nightmare was tied to the company we rented from: Lambros. If you've ever lived in Missoula, you have an idea. If you've ever rented from them, I'm sorry.
Long story short: we were charged for some maintenance on the building that was clearly not our fault. We refused to pay, and they decided to charge late fees every month. Our nice neighbor called them and complained about noise (our walls and ceilings were so thin, we LITERALLY heard the guy next to us sneeze at night, the downstairs baby crying 24/7, and were approached about our own sex habits with much embarrassment), and we received a $25 "lease violation" fee. Did you know that to have an official noise complaint, your noise level must be measured by an officer with a decibel meter? This never, EVER happened.
The fees continued unabated. Neighbors never admitted to complaining, but we were advised that they were quite displeased with us. Lambros absolutely refused to resolve anything over the phone. I filed an official complaint with the BBB. That got us nowhere except "please, take us to court if you think you have a case". When we moved out, by some miracle of Lambros mathematics, we owed THEM $350. That's on top of the deposit they kept.
Now I have a cool studio apartment. Rent's cheaper, but still mismatched to the value of the property. At least I can't hear my neighbors as much, but I live on a major road with a bus stop under my balcony. Whee!

I've used this topic many a time.
Anyone that's lived and rented in Missoula for some time knows to avoid Lambros like the plague. Sorry you found that out the hard way.

umm, for the record, we're discussing Missoula, Montana, not Missouri, I know all states seem the same from outside, but trust me, there are differences
