Global Warming: Do you care?

Everyone asks is global warming real or is it just part of a natural cycle or is the world cooling or whatever.
The more interesting topic is who cares? Governments seem rather lacklustre in their attitudes and tinker round the edges without really committing to do anything much - as the cartoon illustrates (they don't want to scare the voters off after all). But what about people generally. Are you with the ones who want to do as much as possible to save the planet or are you one who has decided you don't give a rattling damn, because you'll be dead anyway by the time it gets really bad?
I ask this because I have come across the second attitude a lot recently amongst friends and strangers I would have thought of as eco-friendly types.
I don't understand why there is this hardening of attitude towards not caring about the planet's future. Can anyone offer a plausible explanation?
