While performing, the percussionist in my Flamenco fusion group got up and walked off stage in the middle of a set.
I talked to him after finishing the set without him. He told me that the dancer was playing his Cajon (type of drum) too loud, and that he couldn't hear himself and became frustrated.
A few minutes later they talked. And the percussionist explained to the dancer why he walked off. The dancer said he no longer felt comfortable playing like this, with this energy between us. I convinced him not to leave. But he told me that he would no longer be performing with us. Do you have any insight on a resolution to this situation?
Should I fire/replace the percussionist? Would that be unethical? There are several other percussionist to work with in my area. But this is the ONLY dancer I know of that is this talented and professional.

Firstly you have brought the biggest smile to my face in a long time on grupthink!
*&^^% But i think I'll need a lawyer?
How can i be assured a fair trial, genuine grupies that have equal powers of voting? Maybe i should bring my own legal team! Lol
Secondly for the problems in your Flamenco fusion group. Left by the dispute between the percussionist and the dancer. I feel benefit could come from mediation, rather than lining the pockets of those "financial prostitutes/White-collar criminals" the lawyers etc. If it is possible to find a mediator who is neutral, and both all parties respect his/her position. You may resolution to this situation for the good of the group. If all parties could be mature & be prepared to concede to their faults in the dispute then you may even have them playing in harmony once again.
The hard part is the natural tendency most mortals have in rising above the bitterness & conceding to their wrongs!
With hindsight. A leader who was known to all as been fair & evenhanded may have been able to intervene earlier, therefore saving feelings from running so high! In the Flamenco fusion group!
This just goes to show you being a drummer sucks. I am one and I am expected to be tempermental and unpredictable at all times. :P
When things are on an equal footing thats fine, i can handle that.. ;)
One thing I've learned from watching movies such as This is Spinal Tap and Flashdance is that drummers come and go (mostly go); but how many hot lady welders come along?
