Definition: The minimum age at which a person is considered to be capable of legally giving informed consent to sexual acts with another person. It varies from state to state (US) and from country to country.

yep there seems to be alot of pedophiles on here. The internet is full of em. the way i see it is if some ones the age of 18 its all good anything below you are a sick fuck and need to seek help.
Go take a Xanax. The question was at what age should individuals have the right to consent to to a sexual relationship. Not how young do you want your sexual partner to be. Am I a pedophile because I had sex with a 16yr old boy... when I was 15? Throughout history, adolecents have been engaging in sexual relationships. Just because society has said in the last 100 years that you now have to be 18 to marry, doesn't mean the human species suddenly changes its biological habits.

If I vote that people should be able to smoke at 16, does that mean I want to smoke or that I am smoker?

The age of consent varies by country to country. I'm sure you're well aware that this poll is not just targeted to those in the USA. The age of consent in *many* countries is often below 18. Try taking a peek here:

There was a recent case where two 16-year-olds were caught having sex. They were both charged with having sex with a minor. And the boy was charged with rape. Both may have to register as sex-offenders for the rest of their lives. (And the boy may go to prison.)
The 'close in age' exception which exists in most laws is the most important part of the "age of consent" rules.
I don't see a problem with a 18 y.o. and a 16 y.o. having a relationship. Why is that "wrong" and the relationship between a 93 y.o. and a 27 y.o. is acceptable?
I think kids will start at it whenever they're ready (or as long as you can keep then chained in the basement).
My 14 year old pretended she was 18 and she had sex with a man that was 9 years older than her and ended up pregnant. The problem was she was in foster care so I couldn't give consent for them to marry. Now my daughter ended up in juvie for running away from foster care. I ended up in jail, because after she was pregnant she sought me out and I took her to the doctor ( Nothing I could do after the fact) and the poor guy got 20 years probation and has to register as a sex offender. I don't think it is fair that consensual sex is labled the same as a pedophile ( which by the way my ex husband definitly is) I think there needs to be a distinction. I also don't think it is fair that my ex only got 12 years in prison for raping our 5 daughters and 3 neighbor children while this young gentleman got 20 years and registartion. Also the young gentleman would love to be a father to his child, but he can't even see her. Aren't there enough dead beat fathers out there why do we have to keep someone from their child that really wants to be a parent??? As you said kids will do it when they want to reguardless. I don't know what the answer is, but I know the current system doesn't work.
I bet if you ask most of the grupies they would tell you they have had sex before the age 18.
It amazes me that people think 18 is some sort of holy number. When they are biologically ready and they want to. It's not like they are going to stop fucking because fundamentalists tell them to.
