Is atheism practical?

Does being an atheist make any real positive changes in a person's life or is it all just head games? You can replace atheism with humanism or some other secular philosophy.

Atheism is just the lack of belief in a god. Atheism is not a philosophy, it has no tenets or precepts beyond non-belief. Is that what you are discussing or are you talking about non-theistic philosophies like naturalism, humanism, etc? Just seeking clarification.
