My vision of the US military is of a lot of macho types trotting along singing that silly tune - I forget its name. But in England it was used as a jingle for a Marmite advert (a yeast extract spread that looks like digested blood mixed with faecal matter). 'Nuff said.
I have friends in the military. They are respectful, courteous, and proud to serve their country. Whether you agree with their attitudes or not you could show a little more respect.
"show a little more respect" - don't be so stupid. It is obvious that if you dislike something, you will not wish to show it any respect.
The English tune...Colonel Bogey? Stiff upper lip bullshit.
What do you mean by "good"? Well trained? Well funded? Ethical? Effective? Organized?...
I feel as though its more of a sense of pride rather than strutting our stuff...
it sounds to me like you have a personal grudge against the military... true or untrue?
Patriotism, weapons, armies, navies, are signs that we are NOT civilized YET.
The social values of our society, which has manifested in perpetual warfare, corruption, oppressive laws, social stratification, irrelevant superstitions, environmental destruction, and a socially indifferent profit oriented ruling class; is fundamentally the result of a collective ignorance, of two of the most basic insights humans can have about reality. The emergent and symbiotic aspects of natural law.
The emergent nature of reality is that all systems; whether it is knowledge, society, technology, philosophy, or any other creation; will, when uninhibited, undergo fluid perpetual change.
-The U.S. alone spends $500billion (500,000,000,000.00) dollars annually on defense.
That is enough to send every high school senior in America to a four year college.
-Politicians in the U.S. talk about protection and security instead of creation, unity, and progress
-in the 1940's the Manhattan project produced the first true weapon of mass destruction
This program employed 130,000 people at an extreme financial cost
Imagine what our life would be like today if that group of scientists, instead of working
on a way of killing people worked on a way to creating a self sustaining abundant world.
Life TODAY would be very very different, if that was their goal.
-Instead of weapons of mass destruction it is time to unleash something much more powerful
weapons of mass creation. Our true divinity is in our ability to create, and armed with the understanding
of the symbiotic connections of life, while being guided by the emergent nature of reality
there is nothing we cannot do, or accomplish.
Goliath, I respect you more than everyone on this site, and do see your side of the coin and repect it greatly, but I feel as though the troops over seas are doing their job, no matter what the current President may be doing. They are only doing what they are told to do and may be doing 'acts of evil,' but even so, they are doing them because they are told to do so. Also, I do not agree in the slightest with what we are doing in the Middle East and neither do most of the troops who are on their 3rd or 4th tour there. Missing their families and many never coming home. But they are also over there fighting for two things. One being, their homes and country and two, they're fighting for the man on their left and the man on their right, and those two are fighting for the same as well.
I am sincerely honored that you respect my best attempts to express myself on here.
When the machine tells you to do something that you don't agree with then RAGE against the machine.
