What's Wrong With These Kids Today? Add Answer

Are there major differences between the kids "nowadays" and the kids who grew up in the 70's and 80's? Are children today becoming increasingly more voilent? Are children today becoming lazy and obese because they are addicted to video games, TV, cell phones and computers - as the news channels and studies will tell you? Are children today having sex earlier and more often? Are children today having babies earlier and earlier because they want the attention? Do they spend more time on the baby shower and gift list than they spend on planning to be a mother? Are kids today becoming increasingly uneducated and disrespectful to everyone, including their elders?

Here are three examples of what may attribute to why "kids today" are different that the children of 10, 20, 30 and 40 years ago:

1. TECHNOLOGY - Kids today have to be pryed away from their video games, MP3 players, TV's, Computers and texting cell phones before they will go outside. Whe are already seeing the negative results of this: Unsocial children who have no social skills and are becoming increasingly obese because they spend all day on their asses!

2. MORE PEER PRESSURE: High school fashion and fashion statements. Back in the day, "Preppies, skin-heads, jocks, cowboys, hip-hop (of course then they were break-dancers) stoners, and mod-squads." Nowadays it seems like every male child from 14 to 17, (not including the lead singer of Green Day) has the dark, jet-black, messed up "Bed-Head" product saturated hair. (Don't they know they all look alike? What ever ahppened to idividualism? BTW, has the "wearing your pants around your knees thing still with us?") And the girls seem to not care how big they are. Some seem to think that wearing tight spandex when you're 40 pounds overweight is ok even when they are 5'2".

3. DISRESPECT - Myself and all my male friends were taught to shake a mans hand firmly, look him in the eye and say, "Yes sir. No sir." We opened doors and pulled out chairs. And this is something that was second nature (a few morons aside who are probably in prison or living off the government now.)
Kids today know nothing of this. They'll ask an older woman her age. Laugh if a old man falls to the ground. Etc, etc.

So, is it just me? Am I becoming old and bitter and turning into a person who says what my grandfather used to say. "These Damn kids today. They're spoiled lazy!" Am I the only one who notices the difference between the first "Real World, New York" show on MTV, and the "Jersey Shore" show? Is the selection of show contestants getting worse? Or does MTV have to pick the very worst because they have to top the "shock value' of each show?

So what do you guys think? Are kids today the same as us? Have kids always been the same, but are just adapting to the world around them? Or, is it that generation by generation kids do become lazier, more disrespectful, more uneducated and more spoiled than the one before because that is what they see on tv, from their peers and "role models?"

What do you think? Please write down if you think "kids today" or worse, better, or the same, and give a reason why-

Peer pressure sucks. They want you to be just like everyone else, and if you don't, you're crazy or wierd or 'defiant', according to some teachers.
