Cigarettes

#1
Anything as harmful as cigarettes that wasn't also funding so much of the goverments, would have been illegal a LONG time ago. Money over the greater good, that's the sad truth...

Using a mobile phone while driving

#4
Drivers distracted by cell phone conversations quadruple their risk of a serious accident, according to new research out of Australia.

The University of Sydney study also found that hands-free mobile phones are no safer than handheld mobile phones while driving.

Researchers analyzed data on 456 drivers who owned or used mobile phones and had been in a traffic crash resulting in injuries requiring hospitalization.

As part of the study, they interviewed the drivers and used phone company records to assess their mobile phone use immediately before the crash and during trips occurring at roughly the same time of day 24 hours, three days, and seven days before the crash. This meant, in effect, that researchers could compare crash risks in the same driver at the same time of day, with the only difference being whether or not they were using their cell phone.

Reporting in the online edition of the British Medical Journal , they found that cell phone use occurring in the 10 minutes prior to a crash was linked to a quadrupled risk of having an accident. The researchers also found similar results for the interval of up to five minutes before a crash.

This link between mobile phone use and increased crash risk held true irrespective of driver age, sex, or whether or not he or she was using a hands-free mobile phone

Politicians purposeful lying

It's one thing to change your mind. It's another leave out facts. It's another to distort/package/market the facts. But to purposefully tell an untruth to your constituents... that should be illegal.

The prohibition of victimless "crimes" like smoking

"... the only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community against his will is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not a sufficient warrant."

Using car-honking sound effect in radio commercials.

#8
It's a cheap way to get the attention of drivers listening to the radio. It's also a good way to cause an accident. Worse, I've heard some ads using "screeching tires + honking" sound effects to really get your head swinging. Ban this now!

Procreation by Stupid People

I am a nurse and it is just frightening to see who is having babies. And even m ore frightening to realize what the future generations are going to be made up of. The reality is, people that SHOULDN'T be having kids have way too many, while those that would bring the gene pool up, are only having 1 or 2.

The government has far too many restrictions already. I think about 99% of the laws need to be abolished and certainly don't think they should continue growing at the rate they are.

yikes on the abortion issue. roe v. wade was a great case for a reason. it is a difficult and very personal decision. different from listening to hootie and the blowfish, but it is important to keep a sense of humor... and having worked in a law firm, i fully feel that "repeal all laws and start over thing"...scary to think they all started because someone did something "wrong" that everyone had to agree was punishable. kind of like those "do not flush strange objects" sign...that is terrible....obviously it's a huge problem or you wouldn't see that everywhere...maybe more innner work would help our society. but i don't think laws can do it by themselves.
