I'm looking in to getting a recumbent bicycle, but all the different styles have gotten me all up and confused. Which recumbent bicycle type is the best, overall?

You're also pushing against the back of a seat, rather than against gravity - Much more efficient. On flats and downhill grades, recumbents also hold all human powered land speed records. Because of the efficient use of energy, you can typically ride much farther with the same amount of energy.

Even with the heavier three-wheeler, I found the efficiency to be impressive. I rode for hours without tiring. And I didn't get the typical back pain, butt pain, and tingling in my forearms that I normally experience.

Steering the trike was a blast, and it was nice to have no "balancing act". You should test-ride one, just to compare with the two-wheel variety.

Shaft driven? What, like a really cool private eye for a chauffeur?
