Okay, so Keanu sucks, but every science fiction movie made since has tried to bite off The Matrix. No other movie on this list is as influential or deep.

Orson Welles as William Randolph Hearst? He's no Frodo, but I'll vote for him all the same!

LOL - how true, its as if no good movies were made earlier than 1970-ish.

I don't care when it was made, but Star Wars is the best movie ever. I mean... COME ON! It's Star Wars!

The only way that Star Wars could ever be the best movie ever is if it suddenly became Student Bodies.

Star Wars really isn't that great of a story. There isn't a clear Protagonist and it is "A Hero's Journey" almost down to the letter.

I'll give you that it is a good deal better than some of the movies on this list, but it is certianly not the "Best Movie".

We can compare our list to the IMDB list:

1. The Godfather
2. The Shawshank Redemption
3. The Godfather: Part II
4. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
5. Buono, il brutto, il cattivo, Il (The Good, The Bad and The Ugly)
6. Casablanca
7. Schindler's List
8. Shichinin no samurai (Seven Samurai)
9. Pulp Fiction
10. Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back

@NoahVail

that just selection bias, based on the demographics of GrupThink -- most of y'all are so young that you haven't seen many of the classics yet!

i guess old movies just don't feel relevant to our generation?
besides, it makes sense that as our society (and technology) progresses, we'll continue to make better stuff than in the past...
