Man, we need some more non-Americans on here. I've never heard of most of these people.

The problem is that most European humour will be very country specific - I mean the Germans have Stefan Raab, the Dutch have Hans Teeuwen, the Hungarians have Geza Hofi, etc. etc. - but in all honesty, most of these guys' humour is not going to represent value to anyone else apart from those who are familiar with the given culture.

Having said that, I must admit that I am absolutely not familiar with say African, Asian or Australian humour. But as such, I couldn't vote for it either if it were to appear on this listing.

P.S.: John Cleese is not American, and he's on the list. :)

He's very low on the list, but I gotta say it: I just can't believe that Marin Lawrence is on this list. Seriously—Martin!?

Robin Williams #1? Not to cast dispersions on your hero Williams fans, but I watched about ten minutes of his last HBO comedy special before turning it off. It's the same act he's been doing for 25 years. Just with different topics.
Of course there are the obvious choices of comedians that, I think, are way better than WIlliams: Dave Chappelle (saw him at the Improv in SF in July 97. Funniest man I ever saw in person.)George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock. Steven Wright. Bill Hicks. Dennis Leary.
But there are a lot of brilliant young comedians out there who should have a special on HBO: Zack Galifianakis, Patton Oswalt, Mitch Fatel, John Poshn, Maria Bamford, Louis C.K. etc. Actually, HBO was smart enough to give C.K. a show called "Lucky Louie" but pulled it too soon.
Richard Jeni and Marc Maron were almost on the last page!? Richard Jeni was truly great. And funny.
And why is Bob Saget on this list? I was assuming that after his atom-bomb speacial on HBO, the title "comedian" would have been stripped from him.

I'm going to create a list called, "Greatest Stand-Up Comedians of All Time." That way we won't have people like Fran Drescher on the list.
Along with Robin Williams being #1 on the list, I also noticed it's missing a lot of great and good comedians. Larry Miller, Norm McDonald, Drew Carey, Larry the Cable Guy, Bill Maher, Jeff Foxworthy, Ray Ramone, Joel Hodges. Gilbert Godfried. Dana Gould.
Yet Fran Drescher and Dane Cook is on the list?
Yikes!
