The best are the ones my kids asked for again and again. I listed several of their favorites above.

Anything by Dr Seuss goes down a storm. But there's heaps of more modern stories too. Try Harry and the Dinosaurs (series by Ian Whybrow and Andy Reynolds), or the Amazing Machines series (including Dazzling Diggers and Tremendous Tractors) by Tony Mitton and Ant Parker.
