OpenSuSE of course.

The best desktop OS on the market. Period.
Has some of the best standards compliance and tends to meet them first. Has the best, most complete, integrated, and easiest to useadministration system while still including and supporting all the standard configuration files and methods.
Best package selection and options.
Simple to install and configure.
Things actually work.

Yes, I'm pissed about recent Novell moves, including the Microsoft deal, but that hasn't yet impacted my end user experience. When and if it does, I'll jump ship to something else.

Knoppix and Fedora

Linus Torvalds, author of the Linux kernel, says he uses Fedora because it had fairly good support for PowerPC when he used that processor architecture. He became accustomed to the operating system and continues to use it. According to Distrowatch, Fedora is the second most popular Linux-based operating system as of mid 2009, behind Ubuntu. Although Knoppix is primarily designed to be used as a Live CD, it can also be installed on a hard disk like a typical operating system. Computers that support booting from USB devices can load Knoppix from a live USB flash drive or memory card.
