See the wikipedia entry on the "Smug Alert!" episode of South Park here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smug_Alert%21
I submitted this one to help balance out the nth "Isn't Bush dumb? I sure think he's a big dummy" topic. What lifestyle choices or political beliefs cause your friends to think they're better than everyone else?

Up until I read this topic, I thought that even though you and I may not see eye to eye, at least you seemed to approach the issues from a fairly unbiased perspective.
Apparently I was wrong.
If you truly believe that I recycle and eat organic food because it makes me feel smug and superior to you, you are sadly mistaken. I live the lifestyle I do because I feel that it makes a small (but important!) difference for myself and the little planet that I call home.
You must think quite a bit of yourself to think that liberals would make these decisions for you and your party's benefit. Furthermore, I can now see that you have been so blinded by your dogma that you can't understand that people may even MAKE these decisions for any reason other than irking the opposition.
Although I don't agree with conservative idealogy, I understand that there is thought and logic behind the way they feel. I don't attempt to reduce their reasoning to "because you want to piss me off". That would be illogical and contributes nothing AT ALL to the discussion. The only purpose it serves it further polarize people, making the real progress that we all want even harder.
To quote the question creator: "I submitted this one to help balance out the nth "Isn't Bush dumb? I sure think he's a big dummy" topic. "
Why not ask why there are so many topics concerning Shrub's lack of intelligence? Or lack of integrity? Or the fact that he is a blue-blooded frat boy trying to scrape some kind of paltry legacy after his wimpy daddy?
The very question is "smug". Thanks for the irony.
Well, you know what Jonathan Swift said ... "Irony is wasted on the stupid."
Of course, quoting Swift, now *that's* smug!
